Darren Jessee is one of my favorite songwriters. His atmospheric storytelling shines full force on his latest album, Firecracker People, which has just been released on Bar None Records. But before Darren was singing about pay phones and walking home in the cold, he traveled the world playing rock and roll as drummer in the power pop trio Ben Folds Five. I spoke to Darren in New York City about the virtues of going slow, postcards from Marfa and how he wrote my new favorite song. Check it out.
